Write your eulogy
May 6th
We’ve reached the point where for many students summer has come. While for some this bring an opportunity to take down time and relax, for others it’s a time for work and discovery.
Some, like myself, have a hard time finding the latter as discovery and direction is hard to come by. I was recently speaking to an established professional about direction in life, and he suggested one brilliant idea. Write your eulogy. This is not to say plan your death, but more of think about how you would like to be remembered when the time comes when you are no longer in this world. Write about what you want people to say you did in this life. Not your attributes or your character traits, but what you brought to the world through your career and work.
You may ask, what good does writing this do. Well think about it. You have this idea of what you want to achieve during your life time, now it’s simply a matter of working backwards. How do you get yourself from the position you are, to the place you want to be. Sometimes it helps to have an idea of what you would want to do, and have it written in a form that’s unique. This is what writing your eulogy does; it gives you a basis to begin finding and planning the steps required to achieve what you hope to before you die.
Death in our heads is a long ways a way. But the rest of our life is not. Know what you want to be remembered for, and starting planning the steps to succeed.
